Why Hydroseed?

Hydroseeding offers many advantages over broadcast (dry) seeding or sod. A slurry mixture containing seed, mulch, fertilizer, and tackifier (bonding agent) is sprayed over the ground in a uniform layer. The nutrient rich mixture promotes fast germination, increases moisture retention, and results in turf or grass establishment in a few weeks. Virtually any grass or erosion control seed that can be planted by seed can be hydroseeded, including sun or shade lawn seed, athletic field mixes, pasture mixes, native grasses, wildflowers, road and trail side mixes and erosion control mixes. The hydroseeding mulch helps retain moisture in the soil enabling faster germination. The tackifier in the mix acts as a bonding agent to hold the mulch in place and help prevent washout in the case of heavy rain.

Advantages of Hydroseeding

  • Less than 1/3 cost of sod.

  • One-step, uniform application.

  • Germination and turf establishment in a few weeks.

  • Better seed to soil contact.

  • Better moisture retention.

  • No straw or netting to remove.

  • Better results on hillsides and narrow areas.

  • Deeper roots without the shock of transplantation.

  • Eliminates the risk of sod 'not taking.'
